Broken Light

Photographs from the book “Broken Light ” by Alan Sill can be viewed on the 3rd floor ASP building, from 11 to 15 October 2010, in Brussels as requested by Mr Stephen Hughes, MEP. The photographs have being included in a larger exhibition hosted by edan, east durham artists network.

A photograph from a forthcoming exhibition entitled ”Unhappily Ever After” (Kissing the Witch)

A series of photographs that attempts to de-construct  the pursuit of happiness created by media ideals and conventions.  Using the iconic image of Snow White, this series of images unravels in particular the way women have being led to believe that perfection and beauty can only be found from the following of pre-incremented paths that have been constructed by a capitalist  society

Snow White depicts this illusion for women and in turn, un-picks the images women are presented with as ‘normal’, and that without these carefully constructed norms to ‘aspire’ to, their contribution as an individual is less than worthy as they plunge further into the beauty trap.
